As a community cinema and a not-for-profit organisation, our objective is to use the surplus from our screenings to donate to local organisations and Rotary projects.

We have been able to donate £3,070 in 2011, £2,200 in 2012, and a further £3,700 in 2103. In addition, we raised £350 as a result of a collection at our November 2013 screening. We were able to donate £2,540 in 2014, and £2,590 in 2015. We donated £4,100 in 2016, £3,850 in 2017, £2,800 in 2018, and £4,150 in 2019.

Due to the Covid-19 closure of The Corn Exchange, we were unable to make donations in 2020 or 2021. However, we were delighted to have been able to hold our special Charity Screening of The Sting in April 2022. As a result, we were able to donate £1,140 to Maggie's Centres, the cancer support charity.

In April 2023, we held a Charity Screening of Local Hero, and were able to donate £1.000 to MND Scotland, making a total of £32,590 to date.

Details of our donations in each year are shown below.

The second donation was £500 to assist with the capital cost of establishing a public convenience in Biggar, following the decision by South Lanarkshire Council to close all public toilets at the end of June 2015 as part of its cost reduction programme.

Rotary Wheel

The Rotary Club of Biggar is one of the 1,850 clubs which make up RIBI - Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland. In turn, RIBI is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organisation of business, professional, and community men and women who undertake a wide range of humanitarian work and who believe in the concept of Service above Self.

Biggar Rotary Club has around 35 members, from a range of professions and vocations – from medicine to insurance, from food manufacturing to law, from farming to motor engineering. About half the members are retired. Like other Rotary Clubs, it is nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

The Club organises and supports a considerable number of projects, both locally, nationally and internationally.

For example, it has links with Biggar High School and a number of local Primary Schools, and works hard to offer support and encouragement to young people through a variety of initiatives. Equally, it works with the not-so-young to help enrich their lives. The Club supports vocational visits and visits from young people to Scotland from all over the world. It provides support and assistance, both financial and hands-on, to charities and local community projects, as well as those further afield.

The above only represents a fraction of the work which the Club undertakes each year.

Biggar Rotary Club is always looking for new members to help with its work and to enjoy the fellowship of like-minded individuals.

About Our Website - Accessibility

Meeting Web Standards

We believe the Internet should be easy to use for everyone, including those with disabilities. With this in mind, we have adopted a policy of accessibility, and have designed this website to comply with current web standards, as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Design Guidelines

The website has been designed with these accessibility guidelines in mind:

Navigation throughout the site works in a consistent way
A standard web font is used to make it easy for all to read
Generally, the size of the font can be adjusted according to the user’s needs, using standard browser and operating system options
Full size images are given ‘alt text' alternatives, except those which are only decorative, in which case the tags are left blank
Colour is never used as the only way to convey information

Browsers

All pages on our site may be accessed using older browsers, but to see them laid out correctly requires a standards compliant browser. If you wish to upgrade your browser, the latest free versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer are recommended. Mac OS X users may also consider Safari.
