One of the best loved films of all time, and still an enduring classic, The Sting is a 1973 American film, set in 1936, involving a complicated plot by two professional grifters, played by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, to con a mob boss, played by Robert Shaw. The film was directed by George Roy Hill, who had directed Newman and Redford in the western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
The Sting was a massive critical and commercial success. It was hugely successful at the 46th Academy Awards, being nominated for ten Oscars and winning seven: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Scoring, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design; Redford was also nominated for Best Actor.
All proceeds from the screening of The Sting will be donated to the cancer care charity Maggie's Centres.
