Winner of three Oscars, three BAFTAs and two Golden Globes! The first film for our new season is Argo, a 2012 historical drama thriller film directed by Ben Affleck. It tells the true story of the rescue of six US diplomats from Tehran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. Argo is being screened to round off the Biggar Little Festival week. It is being shown in The Corn Exchange on Sunday 27th October 2013 at 7.30pm and Monday 28th October 2013 at 7.30pm. The film is adapted from the book "The Master of Disguise" by CIA operative Tony Mendez, and Joshuah Berman's 2007 Wired article "The Great Escape". Argo stars Affleck as Mendez, with Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, and John Goodman in supporting roles. It was released in North America to critical and commercial success on 12 October 2012. The film was produced by Grant Heslov, Ben Affleck, and George Clooney. Upon release, Argo received widespread acclaim. It also received seven nominations for the 85th Academy Awards in 2013 and won three, for Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture. It also won Best Film, Best Editing, and Best Director at the 66th British Academy Film Awards. Argo also earned five Golden Globe nominations, winning Best Picture – Drama and Best Director, while being nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Arkin. It won the award for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 19th Screen Actors Guild Awards, with Alan Arkin being nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. Admission is £6, with tickets available from Brydens Newsagents and at the door on the evening, subject to availabilty. |

Membership for our 2013/14 Season
If you haven't yet joined, we would like to ask you to support us by becoming a member. It's great value and helps us in raising funds for both local and Rotary projects. If you have already joined - many thanks for your support!
For our 2013/14 season, we will again be screening six films as above. By popular demand, we are having two screenings of each film, each being shown on two consecutive days. We are offering a choice of membership - either for the first screening or the second, so you are able to choose which one you would prefer. To help us plan our ticket sales to non-members, please note that membership is specific to either the first screening or the second for the whole season.
Tickets for each performance are available from Brydens or at the door for £6, or membership for the whole season of six films is available for £30, a saving of £6 on the ticket price.
In effect, membership gives 6 films for the price of 5.

Once you have filled in the form, just pop it in the post, together with your cheque made out to Biggar Little Cinema, to Stewart Houston, 21 Rowhead Terrace, Biggar ML12 6DU.
Paying Electronically
It is also possible to pay for membership by transferring the fee electronically rather than sending a cheque by post. We are very pleased to receive payments by BACS or by home banking via the internet.

About Us
Biggar Little Cinema was founded in February 2011, and is run as a community cinema on a non-profit basis.
As a not-for-profit organisation, our aim is to disburse all the surplus from our screenings as charitable donations, to local organisations and Rotary projects. So far, with your help, we have raised over £5,250 - and this will increase again when we have the full details of our surplus for our 2012/13 season.
We also aim to provide the opportunity for members of an isolated rural community to enjoy good films without having to make a round trip of 60 miles or more to the commercial cinema.
Our films are shown in high-resolution digital quality, and projected using the latest digital equipment on to a full-size cinema screen. To match the exceptional quality of our picture, our sound is Dolby stereo using high definition loudspeakers. The Corn Exchange is well-known as an excellent venue, with very comfortable cinema-style seating and a cosy atmosphere. A full bar is available both before and after each screening, with a lounge area for relaxing and chatting with friends. All in all, Biggar Little Cinema offers a perfect location - and all proceeds go to support local organisations and Rotary projects.
