News this month of February's film and why we had to change around our films for February and March.
Our February film: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - Cert 15 Our next film is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, directed by Thomas Alfredson, and starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy. It is based on the 1974 best-selling novel of the same name by John le Carré In the bleak days of the Cold War, a mole within MI6 is undermining British counter-intelligence efforts against the Russians, leaving a trail of murder, doubt and double-crosses in his wake. An espionage veteran, George Smiley, played by Gary Oldman, is recalled from semi-retirement to uncover the double agent, leading to a spy hunt that shakes the BritishSecret Intelligence Service to its very foundations. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy was filmed between October and December 2010 in London, Budapest and Istanbul. It premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on 5 September 2011, and was released in the UK on 16 September 2011. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is being shown in The Corn Exchange on Friday 24th February 2012 at 7.30pm and Saturday 25th February 2012 at 7.30pm. Admission is £6, with tickets available from Brydens Newsagents and at the door on the evening, subject to availabilty. |

Why did we have to change around our February and March films?

Our February film was scheduled to be We Need to Talk about Kevin, but we were informed that release of the film had been delayed one week until 27th February. Studios sometimes do this without warning to suit the schedules of the big commercial cinemas. This news meant that, of course, the film would not be available for us to show on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th February. We discussed our options at length, and we felt that the best solution was to reverse the dates of the screenings of the February and March films. Hence, our February film is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and We Need to Talk about Kevin will be screened in March. We do apologise if this causes inconvenience to our supporters, but, unfortunately, this change has been forced upon us by the studio distributors. As confirmation, the screening dates of the two films are now as follows:

Our 2011/12 Season

Biggar Little Cinema was founded in February 2011, and is run as a community cinema on a non-profit basis.
As a not-for-profit organisation, our aim is to disburse all the surplus from our screenings as charitable donations, to Rotary projects and local organisations.
We also aim to provide the opportunity for members of an isolated rural community to enjoy good films without having to make a round trip of 60 miles or more to the commercial cinema.
