Dear Member

This is the first email news update from Biggar Little Cinema, and you are receiving it because you gave your email address on our Mini Season membership form. We promise that your email address will not be released to any third parties or used for any other purpose than to send you our news updates. Our Opening Night

A big thank you to all of you who made our first night on 26 March such a resounding success. We were very pleased indeed that David Hayman was able to be there to introduce the film, Hope and Glory, in which he starred.

David was delighted with the amount raised for his charity Spirit Aid. The collection on the evening raised £270 - thank you all for your generosity. Together with a donation from the Rotary Club, almost £1,000 was raised in total

Mini Season Membership

Our thanks also to all those who enrolled as members for our Mini Season, covering our films in April, May and June 2011. We now have over 80 members and we feel that the remaining seats (around 30) should be kept available for those non-members who might wish to purchase a ticket for an individual performance. By the time you read this email, you should have received your membership card - please contact Tom Matthews (details below) if this is not the case.

Our Mini Season of three films:

Made in Dagenham (2010) - Saturday 30th April 2011 at 7.30pm

The King's Speech (2010) - Saturday 28th May 2011 at 7.30pm

Unstoppable (2010) - Saturday 25th June 2011 at 7.30pm

Our next film is Made in Dagenham (Cert 15), starring Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson, Rosamund Pike, Jaime Winstone and Bob Hoskins. It was directed in 2010 by Nigel Cole, who also directed Calendar Girls in 2003.

The film is a comedy drama based around the Ford sewing machinists' strike of 1968 that aimed for equal pay for women. The film's theme song, with lyrics by Billy Bragg, is performed by Sandie Shaw, herself a former Dagenham Ford clerk.

The film was nominated for three BAFTA film awards and received four nominations for the British Independent Film Awards.

You can read more about the film on our website by clicking here. You may also watch the trailer on our website by clicking here.

Made in Dagenham is being shown in The Corn Exchange at 7.30pm on Saturday 30 April 2011.

We anticipate commencing our 2011/12 Season in October, and membership details will be available once the season's programme has been finalised. We do hope that you will continue to be a member when we re-start in the Autumn.
